I really can’t stay – Baby it’s cold outside

Charlotte has been trying to decide for weeks rather or not it was going to actually participate in the fall season with the rest of the year. Sunday I was walking my dog in capri pants, a tank top and flip flops.

Hot-Roommate thinks it’s awesome. She loves the fact that the weather is still warm and crisp. “But,” I remind her. “How bad will the summer be if it never gets cold?”

I spoke way too soon. This morning it was insanely cold. And even now, at almost 2:30 when it would be back up in the 60’s it feels like 30 degrees outside.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m originally from the North and it does not feel right to me if in December I don’t get a white Christmas. But I enjoy watching the snow fall while cuddled up next to a fireplace in a darkened room with a blanket, a cup of hot cocoa and a book. I don’t like to be knee deep in it. I’m always cold anyways, it just makes it worse.

Between the weather, the wedding planning, my endless days of Publishing and Kohls I can’t help but let my mind drift to warmer area’s and simpler times. Honestly lately I’ve been thinking a lot about Nebraska. And no, it’s not because it’s where the Lion and I use to talk about running away to Lincoln after his REU there. And it’s not because of my professor in college who was Lincoln’s biggest fan.

And yes, I know that it is only 4 degrees warmer there then it is now…

I just remember how the Lion described it, and how Dr. B talked about it. The sun, the streets, the tiny bookstore with the cat in the window.

Hey, a girl can dream right. Everyone wants to run away some days… today is mine.

  1. Here in my part of the world (Southern Arizona), it barely even snows in the surrounding mountains any more. It used to happen every winter, or often enough for it to seem like every winter. It’s been a while. I don’t really want to run away (today), but winter should be cold… in moderation. ;) I don’t want too much of a good thing.
